Lofoten Islands

The northern lights, a paddleboarding trip with amazing wildlife, beautiful hikes, stunning wild camping spots and rock climbing... the Lofoten Islands in Norway couldn't have given us more!

Although the midnight sun of the summer has gone now, it's still quite light until late, so we had been setting our alarms for the middle of the night every night! Our patience was rewarded though...

We watched the lights from our wild camping spot overlooking a beach. The next morning we headed up the road and visited the fishing village Henningsvær. We couldn't believe our luck when we found a climbing cafe there! Most of the climbing on the Lofoten Islands is trad climbing (which we don't do) but we were able to ask about sport climbing and get some information on where we could go.

There are lots of hiking opportunities on the Lofoten Islands and plenty of websites with maps and information. We found Outtt, 68 North and the Lofoten Info pages helpful. Here are a few photos from our Tjeldbergtind hike...

One of the highlights of our time on the Lofoten Islands has been the wildlife. We even paddleboarded out to see white tailed eagles!

A seal accompanied us...

From the land we saw what we think were porpoises...

And a friendly stoat visited us one evening!

Our paddle to Bleiksøya was an interesting one. We left in beautiful sunshine...

Unfortunately the weather took a turn for the worse and we came back in a cloud!

The sun did try to make an appearance again at sunset though.

This was just one of many amazing wild camping spots on the Lofoten Islands. We're sad to be leaving, but I have a feeling we will return!
