Chiavenna was our favourite part of Italy, but we actually found it by mistake! We needed to stay at a campsite for a night and searched for cheap ones around Lake Como. As that's not really a thing, we drove north to the very reasonably priced Camping Acquafraggia. We had a lovely view of the waterfall from our pitch.
We soon realised that this was mainly a climbers' campsite. The reception area had seven climbing guidebooks that we could look through to plan the next few days. I did my first 5c climb, followed by a 5b (called Everest, so I can now say I've climbed Everest) and another 5c.
There are lots of hiking options in the valley and the walk to the top of the waterfall offers some fantastic views.
What was going to be one night at the campsite ended up being three nights meaning we were able to climb four days running. The wild camp that followed did not disappoint. We found a derelict hotel by Lago di Mezzola and stayed overnight in the car park. We probably shouldn't have watched quite such scary programmes on the laptop that night, but at least we had some nice views in the morning!
