Fred suggested that we visit Calanques on our way through France. He had described this amazing wilderness, and as we drove through the busy city of Marseille, we couldn’t understand how it could just be just up the road. It was the closest to London driving that we’ve experienced so far on the trip! But sure enough, we pulled off of a crazy roundabout, drove less than a mile up to some free parking, then started our walk uphill. This was the view that awaited us from the top.

Looking behind us, you can see just how close Marseille is…

There were some beautiful butterflies at the top too.

There are people who live in the national park without gas, electric or water supplies, but we didn’t venture far enough to see these places. Maybe next time!
