We happened upon Cuenca by chance (again, by looking for the green bits on the map). What a find it has been! The old part of the city is famous for its ‘hanging houses’ that are built into the rock face.
Cuenca Cathedral was built between 1182-1270.
Colourful buildings at the Plaza Mayor.
View from the castle ruins.
The gorges of the Júcar and Huécar rivers shape the landscape around Cuenca and gave us the opportunity to paddleboard and climb in the same day.
We stayed in Cuenca so that we could have lunch at the Parador (on the left in the photo below) on my birthday.
